Society Lead, Stanford Center for Research on Foundation Models
Rishi Bommasani is the society lead at the Stanford Center for Research on Foundation Models (CRFM). He is completing his PhD at Stanford Computer Science, advised by Percy Liang and Dan Jurafsky and has affiliations in Stanford NLP, Stanford AI, and Stanford HAI. Bommasani began his research journey at Cornell, where he received his bachelor’s in math and computer science and his master’s in computer science, under the guidance of Claire Cardie and is deeply honored to have learned from the late Professor Arzoo Katiyar. Bommasani researches the societal impact of AI, especially foundation models. Specifically, transparency (establish the basic facts: evaluation, ecosystem, data, interaction), concepts (introduce important new ideas: homogenization, trust, emergence, governance) and progress (drive concrete societal change: power, policy, norms).
